The internal kick-off event on June 5 to 6, 2013 and the public kick-off event on June 7, 2013 were prepared, coordinated and held in Bangkok, Thailand in collaboration with NSTDA. Additional demonstrations of VR in the fields of urban visualization, business and industrial park planning, electrical grid and transmission line planning, digital manufacturing, and virtual interactive training were also presented to highlight different applications of digital engineering. NSTDA’s newly established local digital engineering project group was also introduced during the internal meeting.
On a week-long study tour, from October 13 to 18, 2013, a Thai delegation was given a detailed introduction to digital engineering and technologies in current research projects at both the Fraunhofer IFF and at the facilities of local industry and research partners. Apart from the topics at hand, the technological design and potential hardware and configurations for the CDE laboratory being set up in Thailand were presented and discussed.
A "Digital Engineering Workshop on VR and AR Applications" lasting several days was held in Bangkok in May of 2014. In their presentations, both the project partners, Otto von Guericke University, the Fraunhofer IFF und NSTDA, and representatives of local industry associations, e.g. the Federation of Thai Industries Electrical, Electronics and Allied Industries Club, highlighted the potential of digital engineering. Apart from the the session of presentations, individual workshops were held with potential Thai industry partners for pilot projects:
as well as with potential Thai partner universities:
From June 28th to July 1st 2016 a Thai delegation consisting of representatives from Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), National Electronics and Computer Technology Centers (NECTEC), and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) stayed in Magdeburg.
Amongst other things, the delegation visited the Otto-von-Guericke University (OVGU) and the Fraunhofer IFF. Furthermore, on June 28th the signing of the Agreement for the Double Degree Program between OVGU and SIIT took place at the faculty of computer science at the OVGU.
